Chemical Manufacturing Site
Phase I ESA
Blanchard Environmental Consulting conducted a Phase I ESA at a complex chemical manufacturing facility.
Key Activities
- Collecting data from multiple government agencies and databases
- Reviewing historical aerial photographs and previous environmental reports
- Extensive review of past environmental reporting
- Conducting staff interviews and a thorough site inspection
The assessment identified contamination from historical onsite manufacturing and transportation activities. Recommendations were made to continue ongoing remediation efforts. All work followed CSA and Alberta Environment guidelines
Apartment Building in a National Park
Phase I ESA
As part of bank financing requirements, Blanchard Environmental Consulting completed a Phase I ESA for an apartment building located in a national park.
Key Activities
- Liaising with federal agencies for property information
- Reviewing government records and historical aerial photos
- Conducting interviews with the property owner and caretaker
- Completing a site inspection
The assessment determined that the potential for contamination was low, allowing the client to proceed with financing. All work adhered to CSA and Alberta Environment guidelines.
Electrical Substation
Soil Sampling
Blanchard Environmental Consulting conducted soil sampling at an electrical substation in preparation for a transformation upgrade.
Key Activities
- Using a vacuum truck to clear gravel from sample locations
- Cutting access points in the liner to collect soil samples
- Laboratory analysis for hydrocarbons and PCBs
All contaminant levels were below Alberta Environment Tier 1 guidelines, enabling the client to proceed with the upgrade.
Gas Station
Phase II ESA
As part of a re-financing application, Blanchard Environmental Consulting performed a Phase II ESA at a gas station.
Key Activities
- Drilling boreholes and installing groundwater monitoring wells
- Collecting soil samples for laboratory analysis for hydrocarbons
- Returning to site to purge wells and collect water samples for laboratory analysis for hydrocarbons
Laboratory results showed all contaminant levels were below Alberta Environment Tier 1 guidelines, allowing the client to move forward with re-financing.
